                           About

I've always found something exhilarating about rhyme, and seem to have been enjoying and experimenting with it intermittently and quite involuntarily for as long as I can remember. That doesn't mean to say that the end result is necessarily any good of course; and perhaps thankfully, it's more the process, thrill and satisfaction of producing it which I find pleasing almost in spite of the quality or outcome.

Without wandering into chapter and inevitably verse on the subject, as important perhaps is the associated rhythm. I love the way that words and syllables on a line conspire to jauntily bounce and skip along towards the cliff edge of a rhyming carriage return, ahead of which they need to have said everything with which they were poetically tasked. It's as if a metaphor for life itself.

And though I often fall a little short of the intended target, there's also an accompanying fulfilment from believing I've expressed a thought concisely despite being constrained by such a limited form and managing something of a distinct beginning, middle and end. There's a definite release of 'end-orphins' when I find and have written a tidy and well-rounded final four lines.

Beware though, I’m an inveterate editor and will be apt to return time and again to tinker, revise and generally tidy things up, so if you’ve been good enough to return for seconds following an initial helping and the landscape seems to have changed ... it likely has.
