An Apple a Day

Sure I'd heard that piece of advice about the doctor and the apple,
But was unaware ignoring it, risked earlier being prostrate in the chapel.
5-a-day, yep of course I'd also heard that hackneyed phrase,
But never did I truly think, these could be the saviour of our days.
See that apple as a hand size pill, cornucopia of core-clad cures,
Health giving benefits of a colossal kind, and availability which endures.
The earth provides us medicine by way of such a terrestrial treat,
So accessible that we find it low-hanging or fallen at our feet.
You can lead a horse to the fruit tree, but you can't get it to munch,
But by a daily habit, try have some fruit at every lunch.
And soon the doctor will be wondering where all their patients have sudden gone,
Realising that at last, this advice we've all prevailed upon.
