Better View

I buy pictures that I'll never hang, and books I'll never read,
Subscribe to much I'll not digest, and to defeat so must concede.
That I'll never have all the things I'd like, or knowledge I so desire,
Never achieve all the things in life to which I yet in vain aspire.

But this perspective is a misplaced sense of from where life offers gain,
For this isn't what we think it is, so let me try this thought explain.
Our lives are what and where we are, and the goals for now that brings,
Yet expectation can overwhelm, with all it at us each day flings.

So focus your concern on what you can and need to do,
And be sure this involves your job and hobbies, close family, friends and you.
Then if all seems on an even keel, only now extend your scope,
But try not take on this extra if with it a sense you might not cope.

Keep life simple and manageable, don't clutter it up with what,
Isn't pertinent or of benefit, and won't improve your life and lot.
Instead, just take a long deep breath, survey your current all,
Appreciate what it is you have, try not on things unattainable call.

Yes, keep buying those pics and books, for what they represent,
But focus first on grounded things, for such time is worthwhile spent.
And this will make for a happier and more philosophical you,
To better inform your priorities and provide of life, a better view.
