Bird of Paradise

I love bright cold clear winter days,
Their deep blue cloudless sky.
Where vapour trails mark airways,
Of large jets that overfly.
Each cuts a course through boundless sea,
Like a solitary ship.
For warmer port they quickly flee,
Escaped from winter's grip.
I dream of a hot and sunny isle,
Where summer hides away.
And life's face has a kinder smile,
For all who come to stay.
I'll ever wonder at the sight,
And always they'll entice.
Until one day I share the flight.
Of a bird of paradise.
