Contentment

Happiness and contentment are,
The very best of friends.
One from the other never far,
As if nature this intends.
Contentment waits for us to find,
It hiding in plain sight.
Made visible by our state of mind,
If its presence we invite.
Navigating life's busy road,
Let unreal demands speed by.
Compliance with its highway code,
if unsettling; try deny.
Dismiss regret if it should call,
For the past cannot be changed.
Don't worry about the future all,
As this as yet is still estranged.
And accept the now and present,
Life's stock upon its shelves,
The painful and the pleasant,
As peculiar to ourselves.
Enjoy your likes and talents, skills,
That make the person you.
Things with which a day could fill,
If all you had to do.
All that you have made our own,
Which reflects who you've become.
A dance performed perhaps alone
To the beat of a different drum.
Then thankful for your life and lot,
Regret and worry free.
You'll hopefully find that sunny spot,
Which means contented you can be.
