Fountain of Youth

Though aware of the mythical ‘fountain of youth',
And the part in our culture it plays.
I've left it ‘till now when I'm too long in tooth,
To hope it might extend my days.
But I'm ok with that as I've never expected,
That I'd do other than slowly grow old.
Or I’d somehow be special and age-proof protected,
On that promise, I've never been sold.
Instead, I am grateful for the length here I’ve stayed,
And accept that age ever accrues.
That life is of years for its wisdom a trade,
Compensation for what gradual we lose.
