Garden Calling

The garden invites you out again,
Through delegated words.
First spoken by the light and then,
The warmth, the flowers, the birds.
They say 'come welcome spring's return,
Behold its stage being set'.
This point at which the seasons turn,
Cold home from winter let.
Enjoy the colour, the sights, the sounds,
New hope and vernal vow.
And all with which spring's sphere resounds,
Enjoy its here and now.
Be part of what you held in store,
On short cold winter days.
Those thoughts of gardening and more,
So long, due care betrays.
And open up the waiting shed,
With its armoury of treasure.
Which soon now lawn and flower bed,
It will manicure with measure.
So, at each new lengthening day,
Heed your garden's words; prepare.
And as March gives way to April, May,
Tend it every moment spare.
