Grounds for Creativity

Thank goodness for the coffee shop,
Its high-street punctuation.
A momentary caffeine stop,
For its bean-addicted nation.

Pleasant lighting, tables, chairs,
Private spot in public view.
A short while traded yours, not theirs,
This space belongs to you.

Soothing noises of comfort drinks,
A soundscape of the art.
The whooshing, shooshing, clacks and clinks,
Which set its world apart.

Soft curated music flows,
To encrypt chat to a mumble.
The subtle means to soft impose,
A relaxing verbal jumble.

This dreamy vale of muffled talk,
Completes the full effect.
Seats choosing, as in people walk,
New incumbents to elect.

There with colleague, family, friend,
Or enjoying time on your own.
Its mood to diverse thought will lend,
The means to this will loan.

As perhaps there's more than meets the eye
To this treaterie of our times.
Which that simple stage may well belie,
And a state of mind it primes.

For served with cake and steaming drink,
Invisible on your tray.
Is something helps us stop and think,
As we relax and short while stay.

Brief respite otherwise never had,
To be still and self reflect.
And one of which you may be glad,
For a visit you should expect.

A visit that is, from a kernel thought,
And one which blithely will.
A receptive moment fleeting caught,
An idea-vacuum fill.

For coffee fracks creative seams,
Sets locked-in musings free.
As your acceptive mind with notions teems,
Thought's inhibitions flee.

Distractions few to intervene,
Brain locked in a state of flow.
Moments, just through a mind's eye seen,
Until time to up and go.

With drink consumed, ideas stored,
The place has worked its charm.
Dopamine with each hot drink poured,
It's a beguiling brown-bean balm.

Confirmed by empty cup and plate,
The comma's job is done.
Mind reset in an altered state,
And maybe unsought insight won.

You leave the place full sated,
Not from just being bun and beaned.
But from new thoughts mediated,
From within its four walls gleaned.

Thank goodness for the coffee shop,
Its high-street punctuation.
A momentary caffeine stop,
Of syrupdipetous inspiration.
