Half-Lit Life

Was it here I recent walked,
On sun-swathed stand-still days?
When nature with warm breezes talked,
Life's fire full-fierce ablaze.
Blue sky now seems ever black,
With night's long tide drawn in.
Hope's orb set on its winter track,
Light's famine to begin.
Chased too swift across the sky,
Slow arrival, then soon gone.
To raise its head will barely try,
Enthusiasm none.
I know it's back tomorrow,
But that doesn't help me today.
No credit can I borrow,
And it ignores my pleas to stay.
Sparkling source of recent joy,
Quick lost to lands elsewhere.
Another summer's hoi palloi,
Now favoured with its glare.
Taking with it all the things,
That felt so sure and set.
Which spring before it kindly brings,
But alas are merely let.
Its stage now lies neglected,
Like a cast-abandoned scene.
To another show defected,
With little sense of what has been.
I'm dream-like lost in half-lit life,
And a world that barely wakes.
Deserted to bedarkened strife,
And a season sun forsakes.
