Oh Fading Summer

Oh fading summer of lustrous light,
Why do you have to go?
So briefly here then quick your flight,
With all I've come to know.

Your warmth and gentle breezy balm,
Its caresses of kindest care.
Three months’ comfort of quietened calm,
Brief granted glow and glare.

I'll miss you dearly, as away you trail,
Take with you all short known.
Chased by a brute autumnal gale
Denuding all prior-season grown.

Farewell then on your trip from here,
Thanks for all you us provided.
I'll expect to see you back next year,
All winter cleared and springtime tidied.
