Past to Future

They say time heals, but don't say when,
The healing will be done.
And when you reach that point, what then,
Will there be further yet to run?
But sanative time delivers days,
With a dose of panacea.
To pain and sorrow in turn erase,
Until they all but disappear.
And then with these small remnants left,
To kindle memory's ember.
Time with inevitable timeless deft,
Will reforge how you remember.
And as if by the touch of a kindly hand,
The discomfort will subside.
Enough the removal, to now withstand,
Of the bandage long applied.
With pain assuaged, the memories will,
Become a welcome guest.
More sunlight will quiet spaces fill,
And life appear more hopeful dressed.
And though the scar will ever show,
Sense still a twinge of pain.
Acceptance will like new shoots grow,
And you'll feel sanguine once again.
Then days which yet mark such events
Will be sad though not distressing.
Old plans replaced with new intents,
As past to future gives its blessing.
