Come sit by me a little while,
Let me try your grief repair.
With cosset chords your soul beguile,
To dilute your deep despair.
And stem soft tears of cruel self-doubt,
Ease anguish at its worst.
When that inner silent voice cries out,
And your heart could all but burst.
Come sit by me a little while,
And I’ll explain your situation.
The course of this unhappy trial,
And the sense of indignation.
I’ll show you brief a future yet,
Where you'll flourish once again.
And hope has there replaced regret,
To gentle soothe enduring pain.
Come sit by me a little while,
Let my notes inveigle such.
That by their own sad-sensing style,
You discern a healing touch.
And let my waft of wordless words,
Suspend your troubled thought.
Their major, minor 7ths and 3rds,
On sound’s breeze of bounty brought.
Come sit by me a little while,
Until you feel your spirits heightened.
The prospect of a someday smile,
And the drear days’ weight part lightened.
For my melody’s patient council will,
Quick attend such urgent need.
And help to turbid thoughts distil,
Minds high tide to recede.
Come sit by me a little while,
So I can offer enduring care.
For shorter is the mending mile,
When along each I am there.
