Social Solitude

Social Solitude

I love to be among a crowd,
Listen to its conversations.
Its mix of morsels quiet and loud,
Of verbal ruminations.

And it's here that I find solitude,
Though chirpy chattering fills the space.
And despite it, zest can be renewed,
In this loud unlikely place.

For there's pleasing peace in certain noise,
By which I'm mentally renewed.
A contradictory equipoise,
With which new vigour I'm imbued.

For the babble proceeds without me,
Of its flow I'm not a part.
So in its cloisters stroll about quite free,
To enjoy this mindful art.

Though silence has its own rewards,
I seek out places in between.
Which a mindful murmuring affords,
Amongst which quiet is hiding seen.

So I'm thankful for the coffee shop,
Busy library and museum.
Where soundscape sanctums bid me stop,
Restore me back to carpe diem.
