Stripy Summer Top

She wore a stripy summer top,
And was just lovely as can be.
Thinking of her I couldn’t stop,
And well, she seemed to quite like me.

Soon our eager lips would touch,
I felt a rush of something new.
I’d never seemed alive as much,
And it would alter my life view.

Days took on new meaning,
With skewed sense of time and place.
Real life scarce intervening,
In our world-estranged new space.

Every moment that we could,
We shared entwined together.
With each and every chance we would,
Spin love's fine silky tether.

Poems and songs their lyrics now,
Revealed; as if translated.
Hidden before from view somehow,
As if our love, anticipated.

Lovely, young and hopeful bursting,
Youth’s rapture at its height.
For everything in life yet thirsting,
Unspoilt joy and delight.

Yet sometimes fates have other plans,
Fulfilment out of sight.
Across a lifetime fortune spans,
And so elsewhere our dreams took flight.

For as summer’s face to autumn turned,
Life took us separate ways.
And all for which our hearts had yearned,
Was lost from future days.

She wore a stripy summer top,
And was just lovely as can be.
Thinking of her I still can't stop,
And wonder, does she think of me.
