Greeting Cards expectant, unsure to who they will be sent,
To celebrate or mourn someone new born or who just went.
Or somebody whose occasion is a stage along life's way,
Or for another reason wish to acknowledge to them a special day.

But a sympathy card is different, as the one it represents,
Is a person still alive, not yet succumbed to required events.
Someone's name to be written with a poignant verse inside,
With fate yet to reveal, but until then will such hide.

Unbeknown to the buyer, it's already there and waiting,
A death and grief and sympathy its job anticipating.
To provide an acknowledged means of conveying such concerns,
As it waits until for one, the final leaf of life's book turns.
