Trainspotter

The weekend can't come soon enough,
When the chance comes once again.
To put aside that working stuff,
And see myself a train.
I carefully stock my spotter's pack,
With supplies to last the day.
Some food, a flask and pack-a-mack,
And then I'm on my way.
I park up at the station,
And buy a platform pass.
View the boards in preparation,
Then it's time to start my class.
I find a favourite shady bench,
With a clear 360 view.
Poised with diesely thirst to quench,
For trains both seen and new.
From local trains like favourite friends,
To exotic fast no-stoppers.
For trippers where here journey ends,
To distant-station hoppers.
I never cease to feel the thrill,
Of a platform quiet, expecting.
The excitement that a train soon will,
Be dropping and collecting.
