Twinkle Troth

A slow-rotating nightly show,
For us who care to glance.
A pinpoint big-bang afterglow,
In endless dark expanse.
Are these the same faint faithful lights,
Uncloaked by sunset’s hand?
Timid festooning cloudless nights,
Beneath which we both stand.
How comforting to know we share,
These tokens of old-time.
Dependable and always there,
Span lifetimes; with us chime.
We see them, and they see us both,
And invite a nightly link.
By ancient light a twinkle troth,
As to each, in turn, they wink.
Binding us across earth’s miles,
Despite apart by distance.
In doing so, each small sun smiles,
As we acknowledge its existence.
For they also like to know we are,
Aware they play a part.
(Even though in spacetime far),
In affairs of the human heart.
So next when starlight staring,
And you sense you hear your name.
It's the voice of a cosmos caring,
As we see the starry same.
