Untaught Talent

Untaught talent is the kind which counts,
And survives through brute instruction.
Didactic discouragement safe surmounts,
To escape its cruel destruction.
A musician can be taught the noble craft,
Of staves, notes, composition.
All resulting in a manuscript and draft,
And then a final exposition.
But only with the input of a creative gift,
Can this vessel then proper be filled.
Objective to subjective; bridging the rift,
This composer is then truly skilled.
